Holmenkollen Ski Biathlon weekend

This weekend was really fun doing lots of different things. After a four hour drive from Kristiansand we arrived at the Fram museum in Oslo. This museum had information about all the great polar explorers of Ernest Henry Shackleton, Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen and Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen as well as some of the issues faced in the present. I especially liked the information on Shackletons crossing of South Georgia which was incredible being able to cross the extreme conditions of the mountainous island with no climbing gear.

After visiting the museum it was time to get back in the car and head to Holmenkollen. You could really feel the atmosphere even though we arrived as the crowds were heading out. We set up our 3 tipis around an area close by and we all lit a campfire. There was more of a relaxed social atmosphere on this trip and the whole group’s ethos changed because of it. There was more time to socialise without having to worry about the conditions such as those faced on the ski course or Jegers trip.

The next day it was Biathlon time. Me and Caitlin headed to the café at around 10am for some tea and cake and kept eating cake till 12 when we thought it might be an idea to see the biathlon. We headed to the Biathlon area and somehow managed to get in to one area without paying which was a bonus. The crowd was incredible with Norwegians drinking and socialising with everyone. After the Athletes had passed a few times we headed back to the café. It must have been good because I can’t really remember the rest!!!
