I and Line decided to go the most southern part of Norway to Lindesnes to practice our navigation and shelter techniques.
We headed in the car to Lindesnes lighthouse on the Friday. The idea was to explore the local area by practising our navigation. Once we parked we headed along one of the paths that was ready made and marked for around an hour. After this we went off track with the idea to look for suitable bivi spots. We both took turns to lead a leg but we both helped one another to look for good spots and point out areas on the map that might be good. To begin with we tried to look for a spot with a sea view however, we both decided that this may not be the best idea. This was because the area was very exposed to elements and if the wind increased it would be very cold. We decided to move inland near to a small lake in the wooded area and found a suitable spot. The problem was there was a lack of flat ground so when we finally found a place after another hour we were relieved. The shelter we made was one of the better ones I have made as it was closed on three sides which meant it kept most of the wind out. The weather forecast said the wind would increase with a chance rain early in the morning. We worked really well together and came up with some really good ideas.
After we had set up the shelter we decided to pack up our cooking equipment and head towards the sea for a sea view. We managed to get a small fire going and Line started to cook some campfire bread which was really nice and I managed to get the recipe which I will use again
Campfire bread
400g flour
2 Teaspoons of baking powder or yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
2 decilitres water
The temperature had dropped significantly during the evening but it was still really comfortable and the rain was kept off by the tarp in the morning. After breakfast we took the tarp down and I started the first leg of the hike. The aim was to hike a little further along the coast for around four hours with plenty of breaks to take in the views. The weather improved towards the end of the day and because it was good we decided to just use the bivouacs as we were both quite tired. The next day we hiked back along the coast back to the lighthouse using a slightly different route taking in more of the coast.
