On this website I will present part of my work as a PhD scholar alongside musings on translation in general. Though most of my writings will be directly linked to projects that I am currently working on, some will also deal with translation issues that I come across outside of work.<\/p>

I am pursuing a PhD at the Institute of Foreign Languages and Translation of the University of Agder, Norway. In my research project, I am exploring the translation of metonymy in audiovisual translation. In particular, I am investigating strategies in the translation process and looking whether information available in other channels, such as image and sound, have an impact on the translation of metonymies; and whether metonymy in itself is used as a tool for reducing spoken dialogue within the constrained format of subtitling.<\/em><\/p>

I chose audiovisual translation as my subject for research as this is a form of translation that Norwegians come into contact with on a daily basis. Even though subtitling is one of the predominant forms of translation in Norway, no major research has been conducted on it as of yet. My supervisors are Professors Luis P\u00e9rez-Gonz\u00e1lez and Sandra Halverson.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>

My name is Anlaug Ersland. <\/strong> I live in Kristiansand with my partner and two children and our neighbour’s cat (she treats our home as her own). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside of my academic work, I enjoy singing, travelling (especially to London – my second home and love of my life), cooking, and baking. The results of the latter I like to share with my colleagues as often as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
