Every Monday is our day out with the Norwegian outdoor education students. And this time it was play day.. We did lots of games like group ski walking, stretcher race, snowball fighting, acro, and capture the flag. And even thought it was hardcore exercise in in the knee deep snow, we had tons of fun…
On Tuesday we got some brand new ski’s, sticks and shoes handed out which we than needed to wax. From the heel to toes times two, one layer of ground wax and four layers of blue wax (depending on the weather). After we took good care of the new ski’s we were informed that we could keep the ski’s till the end of the semester 😀
So I think there will be a lot of skiing going on the next couple of weeks…And since I’ve got the I’ve been skiing every single day!
But for now I was stepping on ski’s for the first time. Really loved it! Makes me think about ‘the real heroes of Telemark’ and all the awesome cross country ski movies I have seen. And even thought these clips showed massive balls, huge mountains and lots of skills, I was gliding down a small hill feeling just as much as a hero and enjoying the experience.
After class I was invited to have diner at Katrin her place together with Tina and Laura. Once we arrived at Katrin her room I fell asleep almost instantly. After an hour I tried helping out the girls who had broken a glass, got the oven door separated from the oven it self and spilled milk on the stove. Nevertheless we had a great diner starting with some really nice refreshing salad an after that some self made lasagna which was nice and creamy and we ended with a rather curious desert. It was supposed to be chocolate mouse but wasn’t that close.. But we had great fun eating it ^^
On Wednesday I started skiing to school and after class Nina, Tina, Katrin and me headed to the skiing track and took our skies for a spin. The girls had been skiing a couple of times before so it was obvious that I was the beginner. Off course I fell a couple of times but at the end I was tired and satisfied with myself.
The next day we went to the same track with class and I was already getting the hang of it. Besides this I felt like I had an advantage knowing the track. Off course I still made some huge face plants but it was going great!
That evening I ran into a problem thought.. After eating a big and nice meal I was working behind my laptop and after 30 minutes I got an huge urge to eat. Not really foos but candy.. I ate half a chocolate bar, a dozen coockies and a lot of licorice. It was really weird but it was satisfying ^^
After class on Friday I went skiing at the ski track but found that it was not my day so after a small lap I was already on my way to Tina who had invited me to eat with her and Nina, Almost there we bumped in to each other after they were just returning from the shops. Not that much time later I was sleeping in Tina her bed.. After I woke up I helped by cutting some potatoes and resumed my relaxation ^^
We ate the same salad as I had at Katrin her place and the same oven potatoe dish as with the Australians except the potatoes were cut smaller and there was no meat in it. And again a very nice diner with very nice company. We had some laughs, did some dancing and drank some wine, which was made by Tina her father himself, and it was delicious! After some time other outdoor students were joining us bringing more drinks. Before I knew it, I was tasting all sort of things and had a date with satan for drinking a whiskey mixed with coke.
As most people know, I can’t really hold my liquor that good.. So after an impressive small amount of alcohol I was blabbering around like a fool. Which was great off course! After hanging around for a bit we headed to the party the Norwegian outdoor education group had planned for all of us. The party took place in a cool party basement and I did some beer pong, drank some really nice home made mix:
– Apple juice
– Cinnamon
– Vodka
The party was great fun.. even after Nina went mayhem on everybody.
But I was done for the day.. Around midnight I left the party bringing Nayara and Tina home, who also couldn’t hold her liquor that good 😛
When I was walking home I got this great privileged feeling of happiness that I was able and accepted to take part in this life changing adventure. It’s really something to be here in Norway..
On Saturday I met up with Tina and went on a cross country skiing tour. At first we went skiing in the direction of my room and found an igloo whit sleeping gear in it. Don’t know if someone really slept in it but it was an cool idea.. Who knows! Maybe I will try some igloo building myself as well ^^
Some time later we found an awesome small trail leading away from the skiing tracks. This was exactly how I imagined cross country skiing. It was lot’s of fun! I will probably go back there in the near future. One hour later we arrived at our starting point and said goodbye.
On Sunday I didn’t do shit! Even thought I wanted to go skiing my shin was hurting and I was afraid of getting shin splints.. So just chilling around for today 😛
