This Monday I was Still a little affraid of getting shin splints. My shins didn’t really hurt or anything but feeled like they were stretched. Nevertheless I decided to go to school where the Norwegian outdoor education students would organise a day of skiing. I thought to mAmy was getting the hang of it and eventually she was actually starting to have fun at skiing. It was funny to notice that teaching really is a skill I manage and one that comes natural to me. And I was really proud at myself for being able to do this without having any real knowledge of skiing.
After the trip we had some lunch and started looking for some challenges.. We build an slalom parcour and tried different techniques, for example telemarking, to make the turns with our long Nordic cross country ski’s. Not a long time after this I started running up hils because I was so eager to go down on a new challenge. A ramp was made and soon everybody was trying to land a ski jump. Offcourse like they did tradionally we tried landing in telemark position, with an telemark branch in our hand and elegant telemark turn at the end. Besides this we looked at some small challenging downhills with bumps and dents. It was a lot of fun trying all this but in the heat of the moment I did forgot about my shin.. Something I would know the upcomming days. I my mind I spoke to my shin: Do what you must, for I have allready won..
Tuesday was not my best day.. My shin was hurting quit a lot and I misunderstood a parking sign which resulted in a HUGE fine and me feeling like a big sucker for the rest of the day. Have not had any bad days here in Norway but this wasn’t a good one either.
On wednesday there was no school and we were given the time to prepare for the upcoming skiing trip in Jegersberg. After packing my stuff I joined the rest of my group which existed out of Verity and Sarah. We did some ultra fast groceries and went to the homes of Verity and Sarah to pick up there stuff. At school we had to finish an fun group dynamics assignement which was a story about a group of survivors after a plane crash in a cold environment. We had to individually put a list of items into order, choosing which items were most important. After doing this we had to put the list into order with the group. All of this was easy going and it was fun to talk and think about this stuff.
When we started walking to the classroom where we would meet with the whole class I noticed my shin was in a really bad shape. Nevertheless we packed the group materials like wood, tent, stove, pans, shovels, fuel etc.
When we started skiing I had to separate myself from the group so that we would arrive at the same time. This meant that I was walking in front of the group and when going downhill or on flat areas I put on my ski’s and pushed with my sticks. It was a tiring way and my arms and right leg where near dead from taking over all the work from my left leg. I was releived to have made it without really using my left leg and was happy to be there. It was funny that our campspot was 400 meters away from the spot I slept on the first night I was sleeping outside. So it felt like familair terrain.
After arriving we quickly made a camp spot, put up our tent, made a pagode fire and toilet. We enjoyed an Spanish omelet which was made prior to our trip and made some nice tortilla wraps. We planned to do some chocolate fondue aswell but at the end we were not in the mood anymore.
It’s always hard being outside in the snow, trying to keep dry and warm. Still have a lot to learn about how to make myself comfortable in conditions between -2 and 1 degrees celcius. But I’m trying my best and really appreciated being able to sleep in a tent. Eventhought the tent was leeking because the area between the outer and inner tent was to small, which resulted in a wet inner tent. This time in my on going fight against the cold I put my fleece liner between my sleepingbag and my sleeping matress. This really seemd to help against the cold from the ground! I have to take in account that I was sleeping in a tent so I will try this again, but it seemed to work. Just like the last time I was in this area I put my down jacket against my back again, which seemes to be the best use for my downjacket when sleeping.
It was a shame we had to mis Marcus which was also in our group but he over stretched his back which ended up with him staying at home.
The next day we packed up camp and went back. The rest of the day I was drying my stuff and just taking it easy giving my shin some time to heal. In the evening I went to school to dry the tent and talk about our upcomming 5 day ski trip next week. The rest of the day I was busy with my dans assignement for the Hanze university,
My Friday was filled with finishing my dans asignment. In the evening I had some fun thought! Because there were going to be some rooms free in the house Tina, Nina and Erwan were interested in moving in. After taking a look at the rooms they ended up signing a contract for march to june. So I will have some cool new roommates next month! 😀
The rest of the evening was spend eating dorritos chips with a lot of quacemole and watching The lotd of the rings: the two towers.
The weekend was just relaxing, on Saturday I watched some bushcraft clips, did some groceries and that was it.
On Sunday I was watching bushcraft clips again.. I found an awesome documentary made by Les Stroud about starting a live of the grid.

The rest of my remaining time was spend getting back on track with my blog and packing all my stuff for next week.
