Yeah,

beautiful weather, a nice camp, a toilet and fresh water from the lake…Camping time.

We couldn’t have better cond. The sun was shining, the camping place perfect and all the tasks close to the camp. For us it was like luxus camping.

Task: Games for groups of 17-18yrs old kids, fire making, absailing, canoing, shelter     building etc.

Equipment: normal stuff for 4 days, climbing gear, tarps, flints, canoes, live wests, etc.

It starts on monday and we met early to prepare and explore the area around our camp.

We had different group activitys prepared. We split up the class into smaler groups and started with the games.

On this trip i allways tryed to “let things run”. After the tried, i showed how it works better ore more efficient. It works very well, many kids where able to make fire ore to build shelters…even if they never did it before. Generly they had lots of fun and I think most of them learned so many new things. I can remember one guy…He had a physical disability on his arm. He was on my station, the abseiling from a rock. With lens help we managed it to get him down. And the impressing thing: We where just talking, making a safty atmosphere for him. And of course, Len helped a bit with one hand, but that was just fair.

This guys was really afraid in the beginnig..but after half the way he started to smile like sh…. Im pretty shure that this experience was the most intense moment in his life. And he was so proud and lucky after he made it. I think i wil never forget this guy.

It shows you that you can do it if you want. Normaly everyone takes care of guys like him, and it seems right…but NO!…Give him a chance to show what he can do…He has one healthy arm left…so what? Let him make his own experience. He will allway be addictet to someone if you don’t belive in his will.

What we also saw was lots of social loafing. A few groups worked together very well…but specially on shelter building you were able to see lots of loafers. 2 Guys were working, 2 girls on toilette and one guy was standing arround and took some selfis in the forrest….Nice group workfail!

I prefere to have, ore be the leader in a group. You can make democratic descisions all the time, but you should have someone that saya..okay, let’s do this NOW! But the rest of the group should work in their rolls aswell. Than you have a good group and you will be really fast in any tasks.

By the way, the Leader can be different on every task, thats fine! i prefer someone with experience. Someone without any kajakexperience is maybe not the right Leader for a kajaktrip…
