3. day, wednesday

Sunny day in Bortlied,

let’s go for the first smaler tour. We got some nice map of the area, but later we need to registrate that the map is not usefull for this day cause the map shows only the north of the alpine center. And our tour was through the south. Okay we had Len so,…who cares. If you have him you don’t need to navigate.

On this day we started with some nice downhill tecniques.

Snowplow:

The snowplow(american engl.) is a basic downhill tecnique. For small hills ore beginners very good. But for big deep hills it’s not the best tecnique cause it’s not effective enough.

For doing the snowplow you need to approach the tips of your skiis and stand on both inside edges. In the same time you also need press with your legs nice and gently to the sides. Your bodyweight is between your skiis.

It’s easy to learn and you are able to break on simple and small hills.

How to change the direction during the snowplow:

The basic technique is the same, but if you want to make a curve, you need to transfare your bodyweight from the middle to one side. By example, if you press your right ski harder in the snow, you will make a turn to the left side. Cause on the inner edge of your ski is more pressure and more drag. If there is more drag, the ski slows down on this side. The outside of this ski is still fast, and so you will turn to the side with less speed. It’s physic, but don’t forget, we are not talking about 1-3 km/h it’s much lesser than 1km/h.
