Best monday trip ever, why?
Cause we played no games, nothing that we need to to. It was a small group of maybe 12 people and we threw away all the plans for that day. It was a beautiful sunny day and so we went for a smal hike to jaegers. After a while we made some nice fire. I tryed to make fire with a bow,..with less success. 🙂 We had a nice lunch there in the sun. Some of us where laying on the rocks, a few played with a little ball ore throwing snowballs on the others. I climbed on some tree and had such a good time.
We did the first time real friluftsliv. Noone said we have to go to the forrest. We just did it and hung up there for a few hours and enjoyed the sun, the nature, the fire and the people arround us. For me a perfect uni day 🙂
Fire making with a bow:
Many indians in africa doing it, you need three pieces of wood for it. One soft wood and two hard ones. Make a 20-30 cm long stick out of the hard wood and make it spiky on one edge. And remove the bark. This is your dril.
Second step: make some small hard piece of wood. It should be big like the inside of your hand, but it don’t need to be so big. It must be good enough to place it on the top of your drill. Make some little hole in it, not very deep. Just to have more grip vor your drill.
Third step: find a flexible stick and put a smal rope on it. it should look like a small bow for childrens after it.
Fourth step: Use a piece of soft wood and make some noth in it with your knife. At the end of the notch you make a little whole half way into the wood. This is the place for the spiky end of your drill.
fith step: place the drill in the rope of the bow and turn the rope around the bow. then place the drill on the soft wood and put the second piece hard wood on the top of your bow. Hold the soft wood in position with your foot , the bow in your right hand and the wood on the top of the drill with the other hand. press the wood a bit down with that hand. Now start to move the bow forward and backward, nice and fast. You need to do it long time. After a few hundret turns of the bow you should get some smoke. Go on with it…place some little tinder and birchpaper in the nootch and go on drilling. Start blowing nice and gently the black stuff from your soft wood into the nootch and keep blowing and drilling if it needs. Soon you should see more smoke and glow in your tinder. Stop drilling and keep on blowing. In a few seconds you will have the first flame, you can hold the tinder in your hand and build a little nest out of dry leaves, birchpaper and small dry wood and blow. Perfect way to make a fire.
