5. Oslo trip

The biathlontrip,

Area: Holmenkollen, Oslo-Norway

Distance: ~ 12km (very short)

Task: living in a Tipi, to board the Fram, make a bonfire in snow, watch biathlon, jump over fire, and whatever you want (Lens words)

Equipment: like ever, special this time – tipi, firewood…

To board the Fram:

On our first day we went into the Fram museum and follow Ernest Henry Shackleton, Fridtjof Wedel-Jarlsberg Nansen and Roald Engelbregt Gravning Amundsen on their expeditions through Ice and snow into the deep pack ice of the poles. Normally I hate museums, but the Fram museum is awesome. These guys are real rockstars..against every rules, every weather conditions and ice, they reach their own limits and the limit of their crew and material. They went to the north pole, through the dangerous artic sea and deep into the southpool.

It’s awesome, they had so primitiv tools – compared to our tools today, but the went through the arctic and antarctic with dog sleds and tents. They survived blizzards – most of them- and rough sea.

After this Lecture we meet our lecture Len outside. He was doing “friluftsliv” in the sun and so we went a few meters up to the coastline and enjoy the sun and the fjord of Oslo. What a good day after 4 hours in a car with 4 others. Like a herring in a can.

In the afternoon we build up our tipis, a few of us 🙁

Tipi:

We build up three tipis and one tent, like I said…a few of us!

We choosed some big place between three slopes. It was like a big triangle. The area:

The green dots are forrest, the green triangle our tens, the red dots fire places and the blue tent is the norwegian tent. And the black lines are slopes.

We build up our camp in a half circle with a big fireplace on the opended side. Our neighbours were really nice peolpe. 2 Norwegian familys with their kids. Every evening a few of us and I sitting together with them and have a nice dinner and fire together. Norwegians are very friendly persons, sometimes a bit shy…but generaly the are hospitable. They shared their wood with us, their moosegoulash and their axe with us.

At least we need a toilete place. We build some field toilete in the forest (westside of our camp) that was interesting 😀 I think for the most guys it was the first time doing some “big business” outside in the winter.

Biathlon:

The biathlon is one of the most famous sports in Norway. Around the slopes is something that you can only describe with the word : Festival. Thousands of People are there with their whole family and friends from all over the world. They drink beer, making barbecue and big bonfires. Everyone is singing, laughing and making party. It doesn’t matter from which country you are. Everyone is welcome on that day! After a few minutes we had the first contact with friendly norwegians and the invete us to make party, share some food and gave us some skin color. Okay I wasnt able to draw a german flag with just blue, white, red, and black. But who cares…on that day i got a big norwegian flag on my face and i was proud of it :D. I have been in a really good mood and shure…it was cold, but the spirit of the Biathlon got me and heat me up soon.

We watched the relay of man. The norwegians got the gold medal and the germans after a good race the silver medal. Third was totaly unexpected Canada (my dream country) and France far away from podium (Yes!).

After the race we went back to the camp and made some food. Only a few of us have been back. We were bored and so we took of our clothes and ride down the hill on ass-sleds. Like good made us :).

What I ‘ve learned from that?…5 days after it your ass is stell bleeding cause the compressed slope snow is realy hard and like 60er sandpaper.

But…it was only the start of the retardgames 2016 in oslo. Later we made a second fire, at the end of one steep slope. Our plan was to….. and ….. hopefully with a big ……but Len came to us and so we decided to stop it. After a nice conversation someone of us (L…) said hey come one, jump over the fire with your skiis. Answer “I can do it naked if you build a kicker” Well..(L…) grab a shovel and start to build a kicker. The rest of us was preparing the slope and the landing zone. Now there was no way out and Joey did it…totaly naked over the fire…with less success. He lands on his face and penis in the snow. Marek did the same stupid thing afterwards and falls on his ass. I did it to, but with all my clothers on. I made it without fall…maybe its better to wear clothes in the wintertime…

On the last day we went out for some little round with our Skiis. It was a funny picture. 5 of us between all the athletes. Perfect skiiers with hightech stuff, and us :D. We went to the smal skijump and went up on it. On the top we had a good view over Oslo and the Holmenkollen.

The slopes were wide and good prepared, so we tryed the skate technique. It’s really hard to do skating on a longer distance. At first it was easy cause we only went downhill. But after it we need to go all the way back to the top. And after a while we took a short cut through the woods. Offpist!
