For the last time it was the Norwegian students turn to organize the Monday trip. We met again at nine o’clock in front of Spicheren. Instead of skies waterproof clothes were recommended. Bevor we were able to start, we had to pick up the obligatory piece of wood for the fire and we were divided up into two groups. Both groups did the same route but in opposite directions. Moreover, we got Maps of Jegersberg and from time to time two of the group were picked by the group leader to guide the whole group to a point that he pointed at the map. This was a really good exercise to train the theoretical learned knowledge of the “map and compass work” lecture.
Right next to the big clearing where we spent the last Mondays was station one. We were divided up into three groups and each group should carry a person with a broken leg up the hill and down again. Afterwards, we should fix the broken leg and do the same way again. We tried to stabilize the leg with two sticks left and right the tibia and fix them with a small rope. To be honest, this did not work really well… After the competition a Norwegian student told us to do it with only one stick the next time.
The second stage was on top of a hill with a nice overview of the lake Øvre Jegersbergvann. There, we had 10 minutes to build a tower made of wood sticks and the highest one wins. Max, Michael and I worked perfect as a team and won. After this competition we walked to the lunch place where the other group had already arrived. Luckily they fire burned by now and we could start with lunch immediately. Due to the rain lunch time was shorter than usual. After lunch we continued with the group leaders of the other group. Their first task was to start a fire and burn the rope which was stretched over the fire. It was really hard to start a fire under these wet conditions but both groups were able to do it.
After a short march we had to split up in three groups again. One person per group should run to a place nearby the stage where was built up a figure out of wooden bricks. After returning to the group this person had to tell his team how to build the figure with the wooden bricks that were handed out to the groups. If the group was not able to finish the figure another person had to run until it is done. This kind of games show really good how bad your mind works under time pressure even if the task is not very difficult.
Last but not least, the last stage was a really which was fun, too. First, we had to walk very fast. After that we were allowed to run and finally we should carry a girl of the group on our backs.
Everyone did a great job without falling which was not easy because of the freezing water. So, everyone was able to walk home without fixed tibia 😉
