Day 5

Last day of the basic ski course and only a half-day trip but this time in Evje which was only a 20 minute drive from TrollActiv. There, we did a small on piste tour to a lunch spot with a tipi. Meanwhile lunch, we played some games like thumb war or knife throwing. The weather conditions were icy but sunny wherefore the whole area was frozen. Even off piste you did not sink into the snow. Today, Sharon was with us again and she did a really good job. Only in front of deep slopes she took off here skies and meanwhile waiting for her, Len gave us different task like for example walking up a slope and ski it down again, or skiing on one ski. In addition, Sharon accepted tips and was willed to give it a try which was a contrast to Wednesday. As I noticed that I slowed down and stayed at the end of our group with her with the intention to help her. It was a great feeling to see that she is able to put most of my hints into practice. In my opinion this was the best case that could happen to her because she had a sense of achievement. Therefore, she probably will go skiing again and had a good feeling in retrospective of the week. Otherwise, I am sure that she would have never touched skies again. For me, this was the best scenario as well because I was really disappointed of her as she refused to ski and did not accept any hint or motivation of the group. Of course, my feelings have changed and I am pleased for her doing so well in the end.

Moreover, we were shown how to skate. At a flat part of the track Len demonstrated the technic first and told us afterwards the important key factors. After that it was our turn to do it. I tried skating before in Jegersberg because I observed other cross country skiers but it did not work well. Furthermore, it was a mystery to me how it is possible to ski up a hill. One reason for this was not having a closer look at the skies and their tracks because then I should have noticed that the weight is on the inside of the ski. With this knowledge it worked much better and I was even able to skate up a hill. This was a great feeling! On the one hand, skating is a lot of fun and much faster than the classic technic but on the other hand, for me it is more exhausting in particular for the upper body.

As I finally arrived at the parking slot again I was completely exhausted due to the week because I was not used to ski every day. Nevertheless, it was a week full of fun and a learned a lot during the past days. It was a great combination between (more) practical and theoretical learning and the weather as well as TrollActiv was perfect, too.
