1. Basic ski course

Finally course with snow!

Monday 6.2.

In the morning we went to Evje by bus. We gave our stuff to Len the day before so we could go only with day bag . The journey wasn’t long – about one hour.

At the first when we arived we upacked at our cabin. We had girl’s cabin – 9 girls together, it was fun! After lunch we were going to the first ski lesson. I was really looking forward to skiing, because snow condition was perfect. We were divide into 2 groups. I was in group, which led Tim. We started with basic things, how to use our equipment, how to move on skis – basic rotation, jumps, movement. For me it was very easy, because I spent a lot of time on skis. But some of my friends have really big problem with basic skills. They fell down again and again. The first day everybody was full of energy and it was fun. In the end we tryed basic classic and downhill techniques

In the evening we had lesson about waxing

Tuesday 7.2.

We made some basic skills in the morning and then just went for a small trip in a deep snow. It was quite difficult for some guys with no skiing experience but I and some other friends were trying to help them.

In the evening we had lesson about first aid kit.

Wednesday 8.2.

Our plan was changed, because weather wasn’t good. We started with the lesson about how to pack our backpack in the morning. When we wanted to start skiing, we can’t ,because one guy forgot his skis so we had to wait for him. We practised our skills on skis with Tim. Place for today’s skiing was changed and we spent day in Evje. We did small trip in different area with practise our downhill skills – the new method was telemark position! It was nice to see new tracks. In the end we could try jumps!

Thursday 9.2

My favourite day! We were on the all day trip. We practised navigation in winter. In the end one guy fell into the water and we had to go back straight way. After trip we had downhill race, telemark practise and funny time on the hill.

Entertaining evening. Every nation was supposed to present its country with some game, song or something. Me and Eli have chosen tyical Czech dance called Polka and one Czech song called Kozel.

Friday 10.2.

The last day we changed groups – advanced skiers and beginners. I really enjoy this trip and it was more fun for me, because we could try more difficult things!

I think that we often solved problem with different level of skills in groups. We had really good skiers and also beginners. For beginners were hard to manage speed. I think that it is difficult to find some middle way. Sometimes it was good for us that we could try help each other, but on the other hand sometimes it was boring. My opinion is – on the start of course divide people according to abilities and stay for 2 – 3 days and after mix groups and do trips together.

I have enough new experience from this course. I tried to be leader, work with maps and compass, help other people, solve problems and everything in friendly way without conflict!
