2. Tangen College project

This trip was really special, because we changed our student roles and became teachers. Our task there was to prepare, organize and present multiple outdoor activities for more than one hundred Norwegian high school students. We prepared a lot of different activities for them (slacklining, abseiling, orienteering, canoeing, teambuilding activities, first aid). Each station had 2 people, who had to made program for 40 minutes. We slept in Gapahuks (Gapahuk is a small low shelter with nice flat ground closed from three sides with possibility to close entrance with joint) around 20 minutes far to place, where we made program for student. We could use canoe or go by foot.

Our station was about first aid. We prepared 3 tasks for them. The first one was memory game with subjects, which are good to have in first aid kit or take with you when you go outside. The second task was situation with injury and we wanted to see how the student will react for situation without preparation. We also gave them points and short feedback. I think that this type of learning, which is called situated learning is better way how to memorise something than only talk about it. The reaction was different. We were sometimes surprise how the student solved the situation. Some of them were really good, fast and creative and some of them were really bad. The third task was game called puzzle and they had to connect papers, which make sense together. My feeling was that student were motivated and worked good. Of course we also had individual, who didn’t like it, but usually no all group.

The next days we rotate and could try different activities. I have chosen station with slack line. It was nice to change it, because it became little bit boring to do the same again and again.

I am very glad that we had the opportunity to teach Norwegian students. It was a great experience and nice possibility, how to get know more about Norwegian culture. The students were very nice and most of them enjoyed our activities. That made me proud and happy.
