The\u00a0field\u00a0trip\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0take\u00a0place\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0Jegersberg\u00a0forest\u00a0area.\u00a0It\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0chance\u00a0for\u00a0us\u00a0to\u00a0try\u00a0cross country\u00a0skiing\u00a0with\u00a0heavy\u00a0packs\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0have\u00a0a\u00a0go\u00a0at\u00a0organising\u00a0a\u00a0\u201cluxurious\u201d\u00a0camping\u00a0experience. We\u00a0were\u00a0only\u00a0to\u00a0ski\u00a0approximately\u00a0three\u00a0kilometres\u00a0but\u00a0this\u00a0was\u00a0enough\u00a0for\u00a0most\u00a0people\u00a0as some\u00a0were\u00a0new\u00a0to\u00a0skiing.\u00a0It\u00a0was\u00a0tough\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0backpack\u00a0\u2013\u00a0particularly\u00a0going\u00a0up\u00a0hills\u00a0\u2013\u00a0but\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0good\u00a0experience\u00a0overall.<\/p>\n

1. What\u00a0does\u00a0the\u00a0Outdoor\u00a0Recreation\u00a0Act\u00a0tells\u00a0you?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Outdoor\u00a0Recreation\u00a0Act\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0Act\u00a0put\u00a0in\u00a0place\u00a0to\u00a0conserve\u00a0the\u00a0idea\u00a0that\u00a0everyone\u00a0has\u00a0a right\u00a0to\u00a0all\u00a0land.\u00a0It\u00a0is\u00a0there\u00a0to\u00a0\u201csafeguard\u00a0the\u00a0public\u00a0right\u00a0of\u00a0access\u00a0to\u00a0and\u00a0passage\u00a0through countryside\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0right\u00a0to\u00a0spend\u00a0time\u00a0there\u201d\u00a0(Govt.No\u00a01957).<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Organising\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n

–\u00a0The\u00a0organizing\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0camp\u00a0was\u00a0quite\u00a0quick\u00a0and\u00a0painless\u00a0as\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0only\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0an\u00a0overnight\u00a0trip. We\u00a0were\u00a0told\u00a0several\u00a0days\u00a0prior\u00a0to\u00a0leaving\u00a0our\u00a0groups\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0aims\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0camp. This\u00a0allowed\u00a0us\u00a0to\u00a0prepare\u00a0food\u00a0and\u00a0personal\u00a0equipment.\u00a0On\u00a0the\u00a0day\u00a0of\u00a0departure,\u00a0we\u00a0organized other\u00a0equipment\u00a0including\u00a0shovels,\u00a0tents,\u00a0tarp,\u00a0storm\u00a0kitchens\u00a0etc. The\u00a0full\u00a0list\u00a0of\u00a0equipment taken\u00a0was\u00a0as\u00a0follows:<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0 3. Storm\u00a0Kitchens<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

One\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0aims\u00a0of\u00a0this\u00a0trip\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0the\u00a0trip\u00a0as\u00a0luxurious\u00a0as\u00a0possible.\u00a0One\u00a0way\u00a0to promote\u00a0this\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0cook\u00a0a\u00a0three\u00a0course\u00a0meal\u00a0that\u00a0night\u00a0and\u00a0have\u00a0a\u00a0warm\u00a0breakfast\u00a0the next\u00a0morning.\u00a0In\u00a0order\u00a0to\u00a0complete\u00a0this,\u00a0we\u00a0were\u00a0given\u00a0two\u00a0Trangias.\u00a0One\u00a0came\u00a0with\u00a0a gas\u00a0adaptor\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0other\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0use\u00a0pink\u00a0spirits.\u00a0When\u00a0camping,\u00a0Trangias\u00a0are\u00a0a\u00a0main cooking\u00a0tool\u00a0as\u00a0they\u00a0are\u00a0easy\u00a0to\u00a0carry\u00a0and\u00a0easy\u00a0to\u00a0cook\u00a0on.<\/p>\n

Some\u00a0important\u00a0things\u00a0to remember\u00a0when\u00a0using\u00a0a\u00a0Trangia\u00a0though\u00a0are to<\/em>:<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Always\u00a0place\u00a0on\u00a0as\u00a0flat\u00a0a\u00a0surface\u00a0as\u00a0possible<\/p>\n

–\u00a0If\u00a0using\u00a0methylated\u00a0spirits,\u00a0allow\u00a0one\u00a0person\u00a0to\u00a0pour\u00a0the\u00a0spirits\u00a0and\u00a0another\u00a0to light\u00a0the\u00a0flame.\u00a0If\u00a0the\u00a0spirits\u00a0are\u00a0spilled\u00a0onto\u00a0the\u00a0hand\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0person\u00a0lighting,\u00a0this could\u00a0cause\u00a0serious\u00a0injury.<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Never\u00a0cook\u00a0inside\u00a0an\u00a0enclosed\u00a0area\u00a0i.e\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0tent\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0carbon\u00a0monoxide\u00a0fumes could\u00a0prove\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0fatal<\/p>\n

–\u00a0Do\u00a0not\u00a0repour\u00a0metho\u00a0into\u00a0the\u00a0burner\u00a0while\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0still\u00a0alight<\/p>\n

–\u00a0If\u00a0using\u00a0gas,\u00a0keep\u00a0the\u00a0gas\u00a0on\u00a0low\u00a0when\u00a0lighting\u00a0the\u00a0burner\u00a0then\u00a0turn\u00a0it\u00a0up.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 4. Staying\u00a0Warm:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

As\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0snowing\u00a0the\u00a0temperature\u00a0was\u00a0quite\u00a0low\u00a0and\u00a0this\u00a0meant\u00a0that\u00a0a\u00a0big\u00a0priority was\u00a0to\u00a0stay\u00a0warm.\u00a0While\u00a0skiing,\u00a0you\u00a0want\u00a0to\u00a0avoid\u00a0heavy\u00a0perspiration\u00a0so\u00a0it\u00a0is better\u00a0to\u00a0wear\u00a0less\u00a0clothing\u00a0as\u00a0you\u00a0do\u00a0get\u00a0quite\u00a0warm.\u00a0I\u00a0opted\u00a0for\u00a0wool\u00a0thermal bottoms\u00a0and\u00a0top,\u00a0a\u00a0fleece\u00a0jacket,\u00a0wools\u00a0socks\u00a0and\u00a0waterproof\u00a0jacket\u00a0and\u00a0pants to\u00a0cover.\u00a0I\u00a0also\u00a0wore\u00a0gloves\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0beanie.\u00a0At\u00a0camp\u00a0I\u00a0put\u00a0more\u00a0layers\u00a0on\u00a0which included\u00a0tracksuit\u00a0pants\u00a0in\u00a0between\u00a0the\u00a0thermals\u00a0and\u00a0waterproof\u00a0pants\u00a0and\u00a0a down\u00a0jacket\u00a0under\u00a0my\u00a0rain\u00a0jacket.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0order\u00a0to\u00a0sleep\u00a0comfortably,\u00a0we\u00a0took\u00a0some\u00a0measures\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0our\u00a0sleeping space\u00a0warmer.\u00a0This\u00a0included\u00a0laying\u00a0branches\u00a0under\u00a0our\u00a0tent\u00a0as\u00a0well\u00a0as\u00a0laying down\u00a0a\u00a0tarp.\u00a0Inside\u00a0the\u00a0tent,\u00a0we\u00a0all\u00a0had\u00a0a\u00a0sleeping\u00a0mat\u00a0and\u00a0good\u00a0quality\u00a0sleeping\u00a0bags.<\/p>\n

All\u00a0of\u00a0this\u00a0helped\u00a0greatly\u00a0as\u00a0I\u00a0was\u00a0not\u00a0cold\u00a0as\u00a0all\u00a0and\u00a0was\u00a0very\u00a0comfortable\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0tent.<\/p>\n

\u00a05. Campfire<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Due\u00a0to\u00a0it\u00a0snowing\u00a0and\u00a0there\u00a0being\u00a0no\u00a0fire\u00a0restrictions,\u00a0we\u00a0were\u00a0able\u00a0to\u00a0have a\u00a0campfire.\u00a0The\u00a0type\u00a0of\u00a0campfire\u00a0made\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0\u2018pagoda\u00a0b\u00e5l\u2019\u00a0fire.\u00a0This\u00a0is\u00a0also known\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0\u2018Log\u00a0Cabin\u2019\u00a0campfire\u00a0as\u00a0there\u00a0are\u00a0larger\u00a0logs\u00a0placed\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0bottom in\u00a0a\u00a0square\u00a0and\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0then\u00a0built\u00a0higher\u00a0with\u00a0smaller\u00a0logs\u00a0and\u00a0finally\u00a0the\u00a0kindling at\u00a0the\u00a0top.\u00a0The\u00a0kindling\u00a0is\u00a0then\u00a0set\u00a0alight\u00a0and\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0fire\u00a0moves\u00a0down\u00a0the\u00a0logs it\u00a0grows\u00a0larger\u00a0and\u00a0larger\u00a0(Youngquist\u00a02013).<\/p>\n

6. Dinner<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

When\u00a0organising\u00a0the\u00a0dinner,\u00a0my\u00a0group\u00a0thought\u00a0that\u00a0it\u00a0should\u00a0be\u00a0delicious but\u00a0also\u00a0nutritious\u00a0and\u00a0simple.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0chose\u00a0these\u00a0meals\u00a0because\u00a0they\u00a0were\u00a0easy,\u00a0nutritious\u00a0(except the\u00a0smores)\u00a0and\u00a0filling.\u00a0They\u00a0included\u00a0vegetables,\u00a0some\u00a0protein\u00a0and carbohydrates.\u00a0Our\u00a0first\u00a0two\u00a0courses\u00a0were\u00a0cooked\u00a0using\u00a0the\u00a0storm kitchen;\u00a0however,\u00a0we\u00a0made\u00a0the\u00a0smores\u00a0the\u00a0traditional\u00a0way\u00a0\u2013\u00a0over\u00a0the\u00a0fire.<\/p>\n

Conclusion:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

This\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0great\u00a0introductory\u00a0field\u00a0trip\u00a0as\u00a0it\u00a0not\u00a0only\u00a0allowed\u00a0us\u00a0to\u00a0test out\u00a0cross\u00a0country\u00a0skiing,\u00a0we\u00a0were\u00a0also\u00a0encouraged\u00a0to\u00a0use\u00a0creativity when\u00a0cooking\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0really\u00a0think\u00a0about\u00a0the\u00a0important\u00a0things\u00a0about\u00a0camping in\u00a0the\u00a0snow\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0one\u00a0being\u00a0keeping\u00a0warm\u00a0and\u00a0well\u00a0fueled.<\/p>\n
