Introduction:

On the 2rd of February 2015 we travelled to Evje for our basic ski course. We stayed at a cabin at Troll-Aktiv from where we had daily ski trips to the mountains around Evje.

Aims for the basic ski-Course

Later we went off pist to a Hill to improve our Telemarktechnique

3. Skiday

– We started at 9.30 at the bus and went to the skitracks

– We were divided the group in 2 groups one went with Len the other with Tim

On the tour we focus on:

–          Orienteering (one of the students leads the group (leads the way and was in charge for all the members of the group)

–          We saw some footpath from foxes, deer’s, muse, (wolf)

–          Stopped at places for emergency shelter and places to build a snow hole

On the way back we got lost and had to make our own path. Some students were really exhausted. For some parts we had to take off our ski´s and walked parts of the way.

In the evening:

–          We made Snowshoe tour (Where we improved our orientations skills in the dark)

–          We walked for an hour without light and waited till the moon rised

4. Skiday

– We could choose if you want to improve our technique or if we want to go on a tour. I choose to go on a tour

– We had like everyday nearly perfect ski conditions, the sun was shining and we went on a beautiful tour. It was almost too warm to ski so we undress as many layers as possible and were still sweating in the sun.

– After a nearly perfect week we went back to Kristiansand

General Outcome:

The Trip to Evje was our first real Trip together. Many of us were really looking forwards to it and were really happy because of the weather-  and the snow conditions. Besides our first skiday in Jegersberg it was for many of us the first experience on skis.

Our main goal was to improve our skiing skills especially on off tracks. Therefore we learned different skitechniques  (see General Ourdoor Knowledge Skitechniques). We were a really heterogenic group with different experience on skis but in the end I think all of us improved their skitechnique and we were ready to ski on our upcoming trips.

Personal Outcome

I gained a lot of skiing experience/ technique out of this trip. The Telemark technique was for me something completely new and I enjoyed the good conditions to practice the technique. The theoretical knowledge about skis, the waxing of the skis, the first Aid and the packing helped me to prepare my gear for our upcoming trips.

I really enjoyed the day trips on off tracks and was impressed by the untouched nature we explored. I am glad that we learned the ski techniques and especially the telemark technique on the first day, so we were able to practice them on our following daytrips. I improved my cross-country skiing skills especially in deep snow and I the telemark-turns in this week even though they weren´t perfect in the end.

I learned a lot about the contents of my daypack when it comes to warm layers for the breaks or nutrition during the day trips. I felt never cold even if it was up to -10° in the morning and I feel more competent deciding which items are necessary to pack and which only represent additional, useless weight. I really enjoyed the week and felt confident on cross-country skis on nearly every terroir.
