04. Overnight at Jegersberg

Program:

13.30 Set up the tents

15.00 Group dynamic games

18.00 Cooking competition + tasting

At the end of January we went out for our first overnight outside. We wanted to camp in the snow to check our gear in different conditions.

Besides the camping we were divided into groups from the different countries. We should prepare some typical group dynamic games from our countries. We played games like the human knot, a hiding game or elken an interesting game from Swiss. The second task was a cocking competition where we had to cook a diner as fast as possible. We cooked a meal with chicken rice and vegetables. After the cooking completion we started a fire and made our own meals.

Learning outcome

I think since the temperature went down to -2°C during the night, all of us could see how their equipment/gear is working in cold conditions. Beside that we had a lot of fun with the group dynamic games and it was quite interesting to get to know different games from different countries.

With the cooking competition we learned something about nutrition in winter and at the campfire we got closer together as a group. It was good to test our gear/equipment in a well known environment.

Personal outcome:

I realized that my sleeping bag and my sleeping mat are not warm enough for really cold conditions. Even it was just -2° C it was really cold so I decided to pack another sleeping mat and an inlet for my sleeping bag for the next trip.
