4. Wednesday 27th Janaury – First Night Camping in Jegersberg

Tonight we had our first night out since starting the course in the almost snow, but mostly rain. We put the tents up around 1600 hours just before the rain started and continued with some organised tasks, Len had each country plan a traditional game of team building exercises to pass the time which was fun, if it didn’t have us standing in the rain for two hours;

  • Britain – British Bull Dog
  • Lithuania – Spin round the Pole and race each other
  • Iceland – Smarties Reflection
  • USA – Flip the Tarp
  • Germany – Combination of games, mostly running and throwing
  • Czech Republic – 4km race

Each task was set to exercise our mental or physical abilities, the Icelandic helped to broaden our psychological skills and become closer as a class,  while the Czech set out to test our physical capabilities.

After completing each task, me, Martynas and Dom set out to make our food for the next competition, we would all test each of our meals to see who created the tastiest and nutritious diet; we made a chicken curry, this helped to strengthen our bond as a group by creating a sense of competition.

After tea was made, some of us stayed in the communal tent and talk some more, but as it was getting more and more cold I decided to head to bed around 2100, this was ridiculously early so it was very hard for me to sleep, after this I kept waking up every few hours because of how uncomfortable my sleeping mat was, but I was warm and dry which is the most important thing for a night in a tent.

In the morning the weather had settled down and it was a beautiful sun rise, inside the tent though it was very wet and maybe investing in some new tents would be beneficial, but overall the night was smooth and cosy.
