Lessons of the day
A strong friendship can resist dissolving forces. Ice makes every hike more risky but more fun as well. German Bratwurst beats polser.
Main part
On the second daytrip organized by our international class we did a hike to a high point in the Jegersberg area while doing different challenges on the way. Two teams were formed to play against each other during the day. To start the day off Mike hosted a “bullshit quiz”, which isn’t really suited for everyone as you have to think not to think. But I thought it was a fun game and which brought in some variety.
We then started our way into the forest. Teams of three had to lead the group to next checkpoint marked on the map. We stopped at a lake for the first game which was carrot pulling. One team lies down in a circle with the heads pointing to the inside. Then they have to hold on to each other’s arms to prevent group members from being pulled out by two members of their opponents. This is an exciting game which also proved that Max and I are untearable, but it isn’t really suited for being played outdoors, because of the either rocky or sandy floor we had.
The second challenge was a historical touched game called west against east. A rope marked the border between the two parties and the task was to pull the other group members to the own side without getting caught. Again, this was a new game we didn’t know before and offered some fun. But we learned that you should always try a game yourself before introducing it to a group, because some adjustments had to be done during the game. This wasn’t bad regarding our group, but if you play it with kids or unknown groups, it could be a problem.
An unplanned challenge occurred when we suddenly faced a steep path almost completely covered in ice that should lead us to the top of the hill. With more or less problems everyone made it up and we finally arrived at “Dem omvendte Bak” which offered a beautiful view over Kristiansand and its surroundings. Here we started a fire and prepared our lunch. Thanks to my best friend Theresa, who was visiting me, we could finally eat the good German Bratwurst again. Theresa and I also used the opportunity for some acrobatic exercises on the top of the hill.
Before we started our way back home there was a last challenge waiting for us. Working together as a team we had to reach a small bag which was hanging on a tree. We quickly decided on building a human pyramid and managed it to reach the bag fast with only 2 broken backs in the end.
On the way back we discovered some nice trails suited for mountainbiking which I kept in mind for the future.
