On the 16th of March, we were told we had to go on a self organised trip. This was convenient as it was Sædis’ birthday this day so as a surprise we decided to ask her to meet us outside Kongsgard ålle at 11 am and we would take her somewhere. We had packed our day packs full of fire wood, food and speakers and headed up towards Baneheia. We walked over the bridge and just turned off before the city to head up the path that leads there. We decided since it was such a nice day that was would go for a walk round Baneheia first before setting up a fire. We set a low pace as we were just there to enjoy the day, taking pictures for Sædis to take home and remember her birthday. After around an hour of walking round the trails, we found a suitable spot just next to a lake. Here we decided to make camp. Everyone got out the firewood they had brought and we also went to find extra dry wood in the forest. Once we had enough wood, and found some tinder, the guys went about using a flint to try to light a fire, however after 10 minutes of try they still had not lit the fire. So I decided that I would try myself, within 60 seconds of finding some tinder I was able to get it lit much to my delight! Once the fire was roaring, Dom set about making himself some tomato pasta whilst Adrian of course brought some hot dogs with him which he shared with everyone. I had also brought Marek’s speaker with me so we were able to lay down on the rock with the sun beating down, the fire roaring and have the sound of music playing. It really felt like summer time at this point! Stella had decided to bring some playing cards with her so after a while we were teaching each other different games which helped build our friendship as until this point we had no spent much time alone together as small groups. After taking a short nap, we decided to call it a day and head home.
The next day I decided that I wanted to show Marek the areas we had found, as when we were walking, I did notice that there was a lot of areas that looked good for bouldering. So we borrow some climbing shoes off Michael and Martin and headed back into Baneheia. We headed back to the place that we were the previous day so I could show him where we had lunch and relaxed. Then we went off track and found some nice bouldering areas. We took it in turns to spot each other. As it was not very high if we did fall it would not hurt us but it is still a good idea to have spotters in case someone falls awkwardly and hits their head, which can cause a lot of damage. As the morning went on we began to get tired so we stopped for lunch around 2 pm. We felt as though there was no need for a fire because it was already a really warm day and we had brought sandwiches so it would have been a waste of wood in my opinion. After a quick nap we continued to find different places to boulder until we had decided that we were too tired to continue. After a short walk round the area and dipping our feet in the lake. We decided that we would head home. In all it was a very fun two days, we found some beautiful areas and was able to increase our abilities to boulder which is a great skill to have.
