#4 Monday trip 15/2/16

Finally, it was the time of the international students to organise a Monday trip! After seeing the excellent example set by the Norwegians. Of course the standard was now high so we had a lot to live up to. The first trip was organised by myself, Marek, Martin, Chris, Jill, Saedis and Dom. We met on Saturday afternoon to discuss what the possibilities were on what we could do to top what the Norwegians had done in previous outings. The meeting took around 2 hours and after much discussion about it, Dom suggested that we use the 4km track up at Jegersberg to have a race and that they would have to complete each task as fast as possible and the first team back would have the maximum points available for finished first, of course though each task was worth certain points to the tasks had to be completed well.

We decided that Saedis would take the warm up task and she showed everyone the different types of Viking games that she loved and everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun but getting warm at the same time which is the most important thing. The only task that the groups would be doing together was the Log Throw. This was organised by myself and Marek. There was two cones spread apart, maybe by 20 meters. There was also a line going across in between, and the aim of the task was to throw the log underarm like the Scottish do at the highland games so far that the person throwing it back couldn’t make it past the line. Each time one person couldn’t make it past the line they were out until we only had one team left. The winner had 10 points and then after this we sent them off in different directions in a race. We had four more challenges waiting for them. In one task, the group had to carry one person round the 700m track without dropping them and every member of the group had to carry the person at least once. Next was the tarp challenge, where all of the group had to stand on top of a tarp, and then flip it over completely to the other side without any of the group touching the group except the tarp. Martin had organised a bouldering competition where each member of the group had to climb to a certain point whilst being spotted by another person, once each member of the group reached it they could move on. Finally, Chris had a blind folded spider net challenge. Each member of the group had to climb through a spider’s web that he had created using rope whilst they were blind folded. Once both groups had made it back to the finish line we settled down for lunch and were finished for the day. So we told them whilst they were eating lunch that if they wanted they could leave when they were done eating. I think that considering it was the first group activity that we had planned together it was a success and we worked well as a team.
