The 3rd of final trip organised by the international students was supposed to take place, however there was a slight issue. Only one or two of the Norwegians had decided to turn up because they had just returned from a snow hole trip up near Hovden so unfortunately there is not much to write about in this blog. After waiting an extra 30 minutes to see if anyone else would turn up we realised that it was not going to happen so we all had a discussion and decided that since we had all bothered to turn up today and we had firewood with us and coupled with the fact that it was in fact a really nice warm and sunny day today, we decided that we would just go up into Jegersberg and start a fire and just relax for the day. It was around 10:30 am by the time that we had got there so it was already starting to get warmer. Straight away we decided to start a fire and we just relaxed in the sun eating hot dogs. I managed to find an inflatable ball which some of the guys used for a kick about whilst the others just sun bathed and relaxed. Whilst we were here I wanted to try to make a fire all by myself and usually there was always someone else there to help and although this is great, I wanted to be independent and have a feeling of self pride by having no help. It took a while but after 15 minutes I had managed to collect all my wood, get some dry tinder and use my flint to get the spark necessary to start the tinder burning. This alone made it worth it coming up into Jegersberg without doing the activities because I had now proved to myself that I could on my own, find the wood, and then start a fire. Although we did no team building activities this day, I actually think it was beneficial for some people as it meant that we had no lectures so we had to be quiet, or we weren’t doing activities so we weren’t busy, so I think it gave us a chance to connect as a group and get to know each other more. I got to find out about the different cultures that people came from and why they decided to come to Norway and the process involved that they had to go through. It seemed like myself, lots of other people had issues contacting the university to find out information about what we would be doing and if we had in fact got onto the course as I did not find out until very close to my leaving date. After much talking and relaxing in the sun, around 1pm we decided to call it a day and head back home, although we did not do the activities that were planned I think everyone enjoyed just spending time with each other and getting to know more about the group.
