Oslo Weekend

For this trip we had to travel up to the capital of Norway to watch the world biathlon championship.  I had decided to travel up early for two reasons. The first was because I wanted to go round Oslo first to see the city as I’d never been there, and the second was because it was a lot cheaper if I travelled at 4am! So we got to Oslo around 9 am and the first thing we did was go to McDonalds as we were very hungry as we had already been travelling for 5 hours and they were giving away free coffee which I needed. Then we just walked around the city to look at the all the famous buildings that we had seen on the internet. After we had walked around for a few hours, we then made our way to the Fram museum. It cost 50 krone to get in and it had all different types of cool artefacts about Vikings and also contained a Viking ship which we were able to walk in and around to see what it was like inside. After spending a couple of hours here we made our way to Holmekollen to set up the tippis before the weather got dark. Once we had done then we were able to relax for the night and we made a fire and found some bum sledges and were able to go down the hills that surrounded the area that we stayed in although this resulted in a few skin burns! Next morning, myself and Craig left the camp and walked into Oslo which was over 11km away so it took us a couple of hours to get there but it was worth it as we wanted to go walk round all the stalls that were up because of the biathlon and get a feel of the atmosphere that had gripped the city of Oslo. We then decided to get the tram back up which was packed with supporters.

Since no one was at the camp when we returned we decided to have a nap outside, and then when we woke we thought it would be fun to build a snow fort using the trees that surrounded the area. Then we had the idea that we should sleep in it and make the walls high to keep the heat in and put branches over top for the same effect. During the night it was actually much warmer than the first night and we were very happy that we decided to make it, however I was woken a couple of times in the night from water dripping off the branches onto my face. The next morning I had to wake up early so I was able to get myself to the train station in Oslo as I was getting an early train back as this for me was the cheapest option. It was another 4/5 hours travel back and I was very tired when I eventually got home but the trip was definitely an enjoyable one and something I will remember.
