03 Internationals A: Wednesday, 18th February

planning

We already did a few Monday Trips with the Norwegian Friluftsliv Students. But in the end we know hardly any names of them and during the trips we talked to each other very rare.It has always been 2 groups: the Internationals and the Norwegians – but we wanted to connect them. So we decided to play a few name games at the beginning.

As we should do something typical for our culture but the organising team was of different culters, it was a bit hard to find a good way. But we did not want to go just hiking or anything like that as it is not typical in all our cultures (Americans, …). In the end we decided to play ´Capture the Flag´ because a lot of our group already played it at home, even though with different rules.

Of course we also planned a camp fire afterwards. At the first Trip the Norwegians recommend us to bring Kvikk lunsj, Orange and hot dogs and they prepared stick bread for us as it is typical norwegian. So we decided to do something typical for at least one of our cultures (The States): `S`mores` (Place a square of milk chocolate on a graham cracker. Toast a marshmallow and put on top of the chocolate, then a second graham cracker on top of the toasted marshmallow and squeeze and you will want “s’more”)

reflection

everything worked out quite well:

it was really good to do the name games as we get to know each other by name very quick. Of course it is hard to remember all of the names at once, but also if you just know a few you feel more connected to the other group. And finally we started really talking to each other also after the game (results discussing) and at the campfire. I think everybody enjoyed the day and was looking forward to the next trip together.
