Jegersberg is an area placed between Gimlekollen, Søda and Justvik and it starts right behind the University of Agder in Kristiansand. In Jegersberg it is possible to use the area for biking and hiking in both on small roads, paths and in the forest. Besides that there are many opportunities to camp and overnight which is because of the Norwegian ‘Alle mands ret’. The area that we put up our tents was a small ravine with forest around, a lake right by and even a primitive toilet. It has to route from there, one on 700 m. and one on 4 km.
It’s raining like crazy outside and Im running a little late, so I just through what I remember the Norwegians informed us to bring. I got there in time and we were split in two groups and then we were told to take out our map cases. One of the Norwegians chose two of us and said «you are here and then bring us to here» and this was the first task. Everybody had to lead the group and when it was my turn, I felt, even though it was a fairly essay route that the two of us were going to lead the group, I kind of got nervous, and at that point I felt like Dominic that I was leading the group took the role of the Finisher and I took the team-worker, because I was not disagreeing with him, and there wasn’t a need for me to questioning weather it was ‘right or wrong’ we were just going on the path and straight. But when we had walked a little bit I asked if I could see the map, because I felt like I needed the knowledge of where we were and where we were going, because I felt responsible for the leading and didn’t want to be going the wrong way. As we walked we just communicated and confirmed that we both agreed on that we both pointed at the same point at the map. Even though the task was very small and fairly essay we were both very positive in our perspective on the task. So I would say that there were a good cohesion between us. (Group communication, slide 5-6)
On the walk there were also different small tasks, one of them gave us the physical warmth because we had to carry a person with a broken leg up a hill and down again. They divided us in to three groups and pointed at the person with the broken leg. Three or four times we went up and down the small hill. And everytime we were the last, I don’t think it was because of your cohesion wasn’t good enough but we didn’t have a person that just took charge at the moment where the Norwegian coordinators said «go». We talked for 2 seconds and then went up, and I think it was because of the fact that group dynamics had a small challenge. And that was that we didn’t know each other that well. We were three internationals and one Norwegian guy which means that the group dynamics were a little uneven. Maybe if the group had been two Norwegians, boy and girl and two internationals, boy and girl, I might had been better. But the fact that we got to the next task further on at the walk we worked much better together. We found that it was best in a certain way very fast, and then we just went for it. The best with this task was that we were laughing or actually we had been laughing at the other task also, when we had to carry, I and Jonas, the biggest guy in our little group to the top. It looked very fun and we were last again but the laugh of the other guys faces when we walked down with him was priceless (Group Communication, Slide; 15-20).
Basically on the walk I noticed that we got much better cohesion within the big group because we also were able to walk and talk to each other. The last two tasks were bun a string and a relay there the group I was in won both. I don’t know but I felt a development in myself, taking different roles doing the roles in the different groups I was in doing the four tasks I took charge or were a team-worker depending on who much knowledge I had on the task. Ex. I had tried the bonfire and ‘burn a string over’ before, so I took charge and said, that we needed to build it in a certain way (Group Cohesion, slide: 3-6). I would say that the group in a certain way went through the formning, storming, Norming and performing faces, or definitely in the different tasks where I was in the same small group (Group dynamics, slide:6-15).
All in all the day was challenging, because of the rain and wind, but very fun, and looking back I learn a lot more that I thought I did.
