Overnight Trip in Jaegersberg

First Overnight Trip in Jeagersberg – 27th-28th of January

At the end of January we had our first Overnight field trip in the local forest Jegersberg nearby our University. We spend our first night outside in Norway, together with the whole course, but separated into different tent groups. All the different Nationalities representing in our Outdoor Education class were supposed to prepare some typical team-building games for the program during the afternoon to get closer in contact with our fellow students. It was also intended as an introduction in using and testing our outdoor equipment.

We met at 2pm. The weatherforcast for this day was realy bad. Instead of having snow it rained the whole day up to 3 pm.  That’s why the first thing we did, was to build up our tents to make sure that our equipment won’t get wet.  So we split up in our Tent groups, and  looked out for a good spot, where our tent would be well protected against rain and wind.  My Group was Marek (England), Michael (Germany), Dominik (Germany) and me (Germany).

At 3pm all the tents were build up and we started to play our team-building games. My Group of Germans presented a game called the Celtic Not. This game was about creating a huge human not and the challenge was, to untangle that not without losing hand contact. All in all we played many different, and in particular funny games from the origin of the USA, England, Lithuania, Dänmark, Island, Czech Republic and from Germany. Especially on this day I enjoyed the more intensive games more, because while these game we forgot a bit about the bad weather and in addition to that we got warm.

After every nation presented their game, it was time for our cooking competition! So me and my group went back to our tent and started to cook our 3 dishes dinner. We diced to make rice with chicken, vegatables and different spices. On the day before, len gave us the advice, that we have 20 min to cook our dinner, which we want to present. Because of that we decide to cook everything at home, so we just had to warm it up and therefor 20 min were more than enough. Every meal were juged and got points for taste, nutrition, vitemines, and proteins.

After the cooking competition we were cold, hungry and wet. We went back to our tent and made dinner for us. After that I stayed in the tipy, which was the tent ment as community tent. But most of us felt very tired and soaked out. That’s why it didn’t take long that everyone was laying in their tents.

Evaluation

On this trip I had the chance to test my clothes and gear. We got some practice in working with our gear lilke tent and cooker. During the games we got closer in contact with each other and had lot of fun together. We learned different games which we can play outdoors and got some new ideas for a meal we can cook outdoors.
