Third Self-organized Overnight Trip- 25th-27th of April
This trip was my third self-organized trip, which I made in the area of Lyndall. It was my first overnight trip, which I made alone. After this semester I plan to travel alone in Norway for about 3 weeks. That’s why I decided to use this trip to figure out, how it is to travel alone.
Day 1 (Monday, 25th of April):
I took the bus from Kristiansand to Lyndall Sentrum and arrived there at 12 am. I followed the Fv 558 and hiked 12 km to the hiking tracks of Skrelia. First I went to the lake Sandvatnet, near the skrelia falls. The lake ended in a tiny waterfall and decided to build up my shelter near to the lake, because of the good drinking water. It only took me about 10 minutes to find a well-protected place for my shelter. After I build it up, I made dinner and collected wood for a fire. Unfortunately it started to snow around 9 pm, and it didn’t stop till it was dark. That’s why had to skip the fire and spend the rest of the day in my shelter.
Day 2 (Tuesday, 26th of April):
After breakfast I hiked beside the Skrelia waterfall, down to the cost, and spent there some hours in the sun. Around 1 pm I went back to my shelter, and after lunch I hiked in the area of Skrelia, to the lake Homsvatnet. Originally I planned to set up my shelter for the second night somewhere around Homsvatnet, but it was very windy, and I couldn’t find a place which was as well protected, as my spot for the first night. That’s why I decided to stay near to Sandvatnet. Back at my camp I made lunch and in the evening I made a fire and sat around it, till it was dark
Day 3 (Wednesday, 27th of April):
On this day I hiked back to Lyngdal Sentrum and took the bus back to Kristiansand.
Evaluation
For me it was a totally new experience to go on a Trip a lone. For two whole days I didn’t see another person and it was a bit strange that I could not talk to anyone. On this trip I build a one person shelter and made my own tent pegs. I found out that dead, dry hard wood is good for using as tent pegs. On the second day, when I hiked to Homsvatnet, I left the tracks from there to then, and tried to orientate with the map. I realized again, that it isn’t always better to stick to your plans, sometimes you have to be spontaneous and adjust your plans to the conditions. All in All this trip was a great experience, and I really looking forward to the weeks after this semester, when I travel alone along the west cost of Norway.
