Daytrip 1, Holmenkollen

On Monday 13 January, we went on our first hike with all the outdoor education students. They have shown us a typical family hike.

Around 9 am we left, the way to the forest and in the forest was slippery, there was ice all over the streets. We had to be careful and the Norwegians changed their original plans. In the beginning of the hike the Norwegian and internationals were kind of separate and only talking with people who they know from before. When we were on our way it started raining, maybe I should have taken my rain trousers with me. So, what I’ve learned is to always be prepared for every type of weather. When we made the top of the hill (Holmenkollen). The Norwegians made a campfire. They brought dry firewood and some paper and matches. Maybe it’s good to let some firewood dry at home in stead of using the wet wood in the woods, cause dry wood fires so much better than when it’s wet.

At the campfire we played a game to get to know each other, it was very interesting. We shared experiences, stand next to each other and hugged each other. The group felt immediately more as a group instead of just a bunch of people. After the campfire and lunchbreak, we went home cause of the weather. It seemed like it was going to rain, but it hasn’t rained on the way back.

During the way back I’ve talked to Norwegian students and I am glad that I get to know them better. When we were back at university, each was getting their own way and I was thinking ‘I wish the way back home had been longer, I had just started talking’.

The hike was a bit short I think but it was a good trip to getting to know each other and try my clothes, if they were comfortable, warm and waterproof. I am looking forward to the next day trip.
