18-20 February
After coming back from our ski trip in Syrtveit, we had to organise our own. We split up in different groups. I was in a group of four, with Caroline, Elena and Sarah. The weekend before this week was very busy because my parents were visiting me and that’s one of the reasons, we couldn’t plan our trip until Monday 17th of February. For me this was a bit stressful, it all felt so lastminute.
So, on Monday we were coming together to plan everything. We started with how long we wanted to go and where. I found it hard to plan because of the unknown area. At the end of the day we had a plan; we were going to Hovden on Tuesday with the bus at 9.00 o’clock. Camp for two nights somewhere in the area there and take the bus back home on Thursday at 16.25 o’clock. We tried to write it out in a plan, I had never used it before and I found it very hard to do, in my eyes it was unorganized. I also had the experience that things turn out different when you are there and that you can’t plan everything.
The day before we left, Elena and me pitched up the tent inside. Most because we wanted to see if it was complete and if the inner tent fitst in the outer tent. But it turned out that it was really handy to figure out how to pitch up this specific tent!
The trip was one big adventure! I set my alarm early that morning to pack all my stuff, and when I was walking to the bus stop and saw Sarah standing there, with her ski’s…… something went wrong! I FORGOT MY SKI’S!!! One of the most important things for this trip. I dropped of all my gear at the bus stop, run to my house and get my ski’s (and the tarp) and ran back. At the crossroad I saw the bus driving away. It was so stupid and dumb! Me and Sarah missed the bus and the next bus was at 16 o’clock. There was an option we could drive with another group to Langeid, but we didn’t know before if we could catch up with the bus, and if not, we were stranded there. So, we decided to take te bus at 16. Caroline and Elena were well in the first bus. When they were in Hovden they did some socializing and found a good spot to camp, one that isn’t too far from the bus station, because now we were arriving in the dark. After all, it was a good plan to change our camping spot.
We arrived around 20 o’clock in Hovden, it was snowing, and it was dark. There was enough snow. We walked to the camping place and found some space to pitch the tent up. It was surrounded by trees by purpose to tighten/span our tent up. We made it a little bit flatter with our ski’s. When we walked without, we were knee high in the snow. After making it flatter, we put our tarp there and then the tent. In my opinion the space was just a little too small cause, we couldn’t spread out the whole tent. Also, when we took our ski’s off, we were still sinking in the snow. The pegs weren’t sticking to the ground as well and we figured out that we were all not experienced with camping in the snow. At that moment, our mindset was turning down and we didn’t believe that we could pitch the tent up.
A woman wanted to help us out and we slept at hers. She told us how to pitch our tent. She was so kind, and it was good to get some help and tips and tricks.
The next day we went back to our original place, at Hegni, we dug all the snow away until we reached the ground, it was a great effort to do. I felt like I was a child again. After digging, we first put the tarp in and after that we pitched the tent. The pegs were staying in the ground now. With a rope from tree to tree, we tightened the other lines and that was working well! After pitching up the tent we ate our lunch. We put all our stuff in the tent and went skiing.
Since we were in Hovden we went to a cafe to drink something and dropped of Elena at the bus station. After our break we went for a little tour. The tracks were lighted at night. The area was so beautiful, and it was a good day with sunshine! Skiing was also going very well on the tracks. The snow conditions were much better than the other skiing days we’ve had, and it felt good
to be on skis again!
After our skiing tour we skied back to our tent. We made dinner and a little fire. The dinner was good and after dinner we went straight to bed. The night was a bit cold; it was -12 degrees and because of the hole we dug, the cold stayed there. We decided to take the early bus home because the next day wasn’t bringing any good weather. We needed an hour to pack all our stuff and then drove home.
This trip was one big adventure, I enjoyed it and was proud of me and my group, for unexperienced people we had a good experience!
