Kvifor les vi skjønlitteratur i skulen?

Det er mange grunnar til at vi les skjønlitteratur i skulen, men den aller viktigaste grunnen er etter mi meining å skape leselyst hos elevane. Den litterære kompetansen styrkast samtidig som barnet får ei oppleving som gjer næring til fantasien.

Tema som blir tatt opp i bøker kan være svært lærerike for elevane å snakke om felles i klassen. Det kan vere om venskap, kjærleik og mykje anna. Men det er også viktig å hugse at mykje av skjønlitteraturen også berre kan vere til underhaldning.
Når elevane blir lest for eller les ei skjønlitterær bok sjølv, kjem dei inn i ei fantastisk verd. I desse forteljingane kan alt skje og dei skapar eigne bilete inne i hovudet.

Innan skjønlitteratur er det eit hav av ulike bøker elevane kan lese og det er viktig at læraren hjelper med å finne bøker som kan treffe eleven på deira nivå og interesser. Som lærar må ein sjå til at elevane les bøker som også samsvarar med deira ferdigheitsnivå, hvis ikkje kan leselysten dempes betraktelig.

Elevane ser ein stor skilnad i å lese ei bok dei bli pålagd å lese, i forhold til å lese ei bok dei sjølv har vald. Dei kan lese for å underhaldes, for å lære og for å drøyme. Gjennom litteraturen får barn ei oppleving, næring til fantasien og hjelp til å danne eigne bilete.

Barn som leser får eit større ordforråd, meir lesetrening og blir betre til å uttrykkje seg skriftleg og munnleg. Mykje lesing gjer at ein blir betre i rettskriving fordi ein er vant til å sjå orda skriven på rett måte.
PISA-undersøkinga frå 2000 støtter dette og viser at gode leseprestasjonar heng saman med lesing i fritida, særlig lesing av skjønlitteratur.

I skulesamanheng brukar ofte lærarar skjønlitteratur som ein inngång til å snakke om vanskelege tema, til dømes brukes skjønnlitterære bøker som handlar om mobbing. På den måten kan ein få elevane til å reflektere over temaet på eiga hand og det kan vere lettare å snakke om sine eigne kjensler og erfaringar. Det er viktig å gje elevane moglegheit til å utvikle dugleiken i å reflektere rundt til dømes tematikken i skjønlitteratur før ein serverer dei ein ”fasit”. Det er sjølsagt også viktig å gje elevane moglegheit til å berre kose seg med litteraturen.
