Himmelen bak huset

Eg har gjort meg nokre tankar om kva for utfordringar ein kan få når ein produserar film basert på biletboka ”Himmelen bak huset” av Gaute Heivoll. Boka blei filmatisert av Stefan Strandberg i 2011 og vant i 2011 voksenjuryens hovudpris: First Prize Live Action Short Film, ved verdas største barnefilmfestival, Chicago International Childrens’ Film Festival.

Teksten i boka inneheld ein del opne rom for tolking, tankar som blir beskrevet, draumar og kjensler som blir sette ord på. Korleis skal dette kome til uttrykk i filmen? Dette har blitt løyst ved at filmen har fått en forteljarstemme og ikkje minst ved å bruke dyktige skodespelarar som er gode på å formidle kjensler. Å fylle rolla til eit barn i sorg er ingen lett oppgåve, men guten som spela Jon i filmen var høgst truverdig. Filmen viser glimt av at Jon ligg i senga si og søv, samstundes med at han går mot hytta i skogen. Dette er ein svært vanleg måte å framstille draumar på i film.

I boka er det dystre illustrasjonar i svart/kvitt som set an stemninga i boka. Det kan være ein utfordring å skape det same uttrykket på film, men Strandberg har klart å få fram den dystre og mørke stemninga frå boka ved å bruke skuggar og lite lys gjennom heile filmen.
Filmen har i tillegg lukkast med å skape den rette stemninga ved å nytte seg av dramatisk musikk.

Regissøren må som oftast gjere nokre endringar for å tilpasse boka til film, noko som også har blitt gjort her. Den raude tråden, skogen, trehytta og kleda utan menneske inni er dei viktigste elementa som er blitt med i filmatiseringa av boka.

Til tider kan faktisk filmen vere litt angstskapande, og etter mi meining for skummel til å vise til barn på barneskulen. Spesielt sena med Jons mareritt kan synas skremmande. Boka derimot kan eg godt tenke meg å bruke i undervisninga av elever på mellomtrinnet dersom temaet er sorg.

Eg meiner at Strandberg alt i alt har laga ein vellukka adaptasjon av boka ”Himmelen bak huset»
