This was the last trip led by the Norwegian students and it focused heavily on some of the basics, like fire-making and navigation. We were divided up into 2 groups and started and went off the opposite way from each other. We would have to keep track of where we were at on the map without a compass, just using our thumb to follow our walking path and use the map features to figure out where we were.
Along the way there were different stages where we had to try and transport someone with a “broken leg” and we had to try and make a splint for it to keep it in place and prevent it from getting worse. No one in my group had created one before and neither had I…needless to say it was a very very sad splint. We did not win.
Our next task was to build the tallest tower that we could manage out of a pile of sticks. We had a lot of miscommunication, the group was split in half on what way we should do and we argued alot…needless to say we didn’t win. We did kick ass on the fire-making task though. We were the quickest to build up our fire and burn through the rope that was stretched above it.
We had two more activities that were types of relay races, but overall we had a fun time. Now I know how to make a proper splint and I got to know the Norwegian students better. I hope that our activities that we have to plan next go as well!
