Assignment XI – Friluftsliv Camp

Hello again!

Last week all of us had to organize a little Friluftsliv Camp for students of highschool and a age of about 18-20. This was a chance for everybody to learn a little about leading, coaching and giving instructions. Three different groups arrived and stayed for one night meanwhile we stayed from Monday to Friday. We slept an about half hour walk away from the students in several gapahuks.

They were surprisingly very dry, wind proofed and warm accomodations. For the students we organised a lot of little activities and each of the activities was taught by a group of two or three. The students had to pass through all activities and collect points. Maximum five for effort and maximum five for group work. It was a competitive event.

The following activities were organised by us:

  • Canoeing
  • Orienteering
  • Teambuilding: Where is my chicken?
  • Fire lighting
  • Teambuilding: Key punch
  • Building of stretchers
  • Teambuilding: Mine field
  • Building shelters
  • Teambuilding: Crossing the lava
  • Abseiling

On the first day the biggest group arrived an we needed all activities to keep the groups small enough. On the second day and third day the group were not that big and we had to take out to activities. Where is my chicken? and Key Punch were both hard to play for full 40 minutes and we put them both together. Due to the fact we still have a lot of group dynamic games we took Mind Field out of the list.

Personal:

In my opinion the students were all very motivated and enjoyed all of the activities: some more some less of course but still everybody seemed to have a lot of one. For us it was a nice opportunity to work together and to earn experience in teaching!
