Blog Assignment 11: Family Trip from Stavanger to Oslo

Our next student organized field trip is coming. Because of the school holidays in Germany my parents and my little brother David wanted to come to Norway for visiting me from the 20th to the 27th of may. Therefore I planned a little family trip for us.

I met them on Sunday midday in Stavanger where we took a ferry to Tau. There we went to an AirBnB where we slept this night. In the afternoon we just went for a little walk around the area in Tau and played some board games.
The next morning we got up early for hiking up to Preikestolen. This was a perfect hike for my family, it wasn’t too long and too challenging. When we arrived at the top my brother and me did some scrambling further up from the platform. It was a good decision to start this day early as there haven’t been a lot of people at the top but on our way down we already met a lot of tourists. After our hike we made lunch at a lake and enjoyed the sunny weather for a bit and then we took the ferry back to Stavanger. In Stavanger we stayed again in an AirBnB pretty close to the city center. The rest of the day we spent exploring the city and eating the best seafood I have tried in Norway so far.
On Tuesday we started our drive to Kristiansand along the coastline. On our way we stoped at several beaches and for a hike close to Sierra Leone. It was a nice hike up a hill with a beautiful view over the coastline. After arriving at the top my brother and I scrambled down to some caves next to the ocean. As it was already quite late when we arrived at Flekkefjord we decided not to go to Lindesnes and Mandal but drive straight to Kristiansand. After walking along the Rolingheden beach David and I walked to Jegersberg for sleeping one night outdoors in our hammocks. It was a warm night with quite a few mosquitos. It was the first time that I could sleep in the hammock only with a sleeping bag, so finally the summer arrived in Norway!
The next morning my Dad visited us early at our sleeping spot and I hiked a little bit through Jegersberg with them. We stopped at the lake for a little swim and then went back to my apartment for having breakfast in the garden. After that I showed them the city center of Kristiansand. In the afternoon Laura, David and I went to Odderøya for climbing. In Germany I already went to some climbing halls and for some bouldering with David but I have never been outdoor climbing with him before. Therefore we choose some quite easy routes and made the lead climb, that David could get his first outdoor experience in climbing.
The next day we started our drive to the cabin of Matias next to the ocean in between Arendal and Risor. On our way we made a stop in Arendal. We stayed at the cabin until Saturday and spent the day with swimming, fishing and playing games.
On Saturday we drove to Oslo with a stop at the stave church in Notodden. We stayed again in an AirBnB at Holmenkollen. The rest of the day we spent with exploring the city center of Oslo.
On Sunday we got up early and went up to the Ski jump and did a little hike at Holmenkollen before my family flew back to Germany and I flew back to Kristiansand.
It was a great week with perfect sunny weather every day.
