Basic ski course

For our basic ski course we went to Evje to stay a week at the Trollactive outdoorcenter. We stayed in a cabin the entire week and went for daytrips every day. In the evening we had some free time usually wich was alot of fun just getting to know each other better and chilling and eating together. We where split up in two groups every day, one went with Len, the other group with Tim an also really experienced outdoorsmen and skiie running Trollactive.

After moving in when we arrived we met up just outside, to move around on skiis a bit and get used to it again, since it was almost the first experience with skiis for alot of us. We got some basic information and did some basic excercises. We learned what to do when going downhill, how to move smoothly on the flat and how to go uphill. We did a small downhill practice on the hill just behind trollactive, wich was difficult but alot of fun.

The second day I went with Len. We did some flatground practise wich helped alot to increase the efficiency of the movement. Afterwards we went on a small tour around the prepared tracks and did some falling a.k.a. downhill drills.

The third day we went on our first big tour. We went up a huge mountain wich was quite tirering. On the way to the mountain it was alot of fun just to play around on skiis. We swapped the veileder roll every now then so everybody got to practise that a bit. Len showed us alot of animal tracks wich was very intersting. After we reached the mountain top and had lunch, it was my turn to be the veileder. I wanted to go another way then the conventional way and with maybe a bit lacking of supervision We took a massive detour through very hard terrain where we had to take off our skii’s every now and then.

The forth day was our second big tour. We started off by walking up the big mountain. That was quite a chalenge for some of us, since we had to carry our skii’s and it was quite steep. After reaching our starting point and catching our breath I went off with Tims group today. He told alot about the environment and snowconditions etc wich was a plus to the tour. We took it slowly so we had energy left to play around and practise some downhill and telemark falls or turns. It was loads of fun and I noticed that I got way more comforatble on skii’s than before. After reaching the top, it was very windy so we went down a bit to a sheltered place for lunch. After lunch was my favorite part of the week I think. It was a smooth downhill with the whole group. It was nice to see everybody progressing on skiis and just going down togheter having fun. After a while it got really steep and it was a bit more challanging to get down, but no major problems. All and all an exhausting day once again. In this evening (or maybe on Wednesday?) we had a winterpacking lecture from Adele and Florin, what to bring in winter in the mountians and how to pack your backpack.

The last day we had the change to choose between going on a tour or doing some technical practise. I chose to go with the practise group because I thought I could use a bit more technique and tips on that. We did some uphill kickturn practise drills and some downhill plus braking drills. After a while we went back to trollactive, packed our stuff and went home.

On and all it was a very good week where we learned alot and got comfortable on skies. The weather was perfect and the snow very good. I feel comfortable enough to go on the snowhole trip.
