For easter break we wanted to use our time effeciently and do something really big. I heard some people talking about a roadtrip to the Lofoten islands and since I had a friend there I wanted to join right away. Luckily there was a spot for me. We planned our route togheter and pointed out the things we wanted to see and do on the way and what to do when we where there. Daniel found the most cool things to do and we just agreed with him usually.
So off we where, direction Hovden, and afterwards through the Hardangervidda, we stopped at some waterfall and the environment was so beautiful to see from the car. We had a cabin around odda. We did a small hike just to get outside and stretch our legs. We weren’t to far from trolltunga but there was to much snow and we didn’t have that much time nor skies. After a comfortable night in the cabin we where off for the second day.
This day we would go to a nice view point at Flam. It was a tricky road up but really worth it, a breathtaking view over the fjord, also alot of asian tourist so that’s always a good sign! After that we where heading to the longest tunnel with a lenght of aprox. 30 km. It was not really special but every no wand then there where some blue lights and a parking spot. After the tunnel we took a small detour to visit the most pictured stavekirke from Norway at Borgund. It was really old and interesting to see the building from the 11th century or so. We found a neat caming spot in Hellesylt on top of a hill witht he view over the fjord. We even had a picknick table where we could have dinner and breakfast.
The next day we drove to Trollkirka a cool cave that was kind of on the way. On the road we passed this beautiful lake that was exactly like a mirror so we stopped there had some lunch for an hour with some good music coming from the car and continued. The cave took us a few hours to walk up and explore the cave and walk back. It was really nice to get out the car and hike around this nice area for a bit. After we got back in the car we made our way to Kristiansund over the Atlantic road. A road that hops over some islands with high bridges and the whole area is really beautiful. Unfortunatly we didn’t have that much time so off we where to our next cabin a bit above Trondheim.
The next day was kind off boring, we saw an old fisher village and some mountains called the seven sisters. But it wasn’t that special. We found a bad camping spot and a guy told us because of the tide we had to move. So it was even worse.
The day we where going to reach the Lofoten at last. It was still quite a drive to Bodo where the ferry would depart from. We crossed the arctic circle and exactly around there was alot of snow and really cold. Half an hour before and half an hour later was no snow at all. The climate in Norway kept surprising me. Every valley had it’s own climate and after every tunnel the weather could be extremly diffrent. The ferry was long but pleasent to not sit in the car for a while. When we reached Lofoten islands the weather wasn’t that good, but the vieuw breathtaking. We drove to my friends place in Kabelvag wich was a 2 hour drive from Moskenes where we arrived. We past the most beautiful places on our way and we stopped at the beach to run and jump around and just be happy. We arrived at my friends place and had a really warm welcome. The house was really cozy and it was good to see my friend again and meet his girlfriend. They where one of the most hostible people I, and im shure the others also have ever met.
The next day was quite rainy so hiking was not really going to happen. So instead we went to Henningsvaer a nice fishing village to walk around in the rain a bit and experience the Lofoten life wich is all about fish, especially around this time of year. We also went to Svolvaer, the capital of the Lofoten, wich was nice as well. Eventhough the villages where not that special the view of the mountains reaching straight out from the sea kept amazing me.
The next day, the weather was amazing. So off we where to a nice hill where we wanted to climb up. After a while we reached some kind of top and the view was amazing. I would say the best view I have ever seen so far. It was a very euphorical moment and I think I will remember this moment for a long time. We tried to go ever further up but it was really icy and steep and we didn’t have any crampons or whatsoever. So we where forced down but that didn’t matter. We had lunch on the lower top and the way down was so much fun to jump from the rocks and land in the deep snow. After the hike we went for a break to a nice village where we found a soft moss hill where we layed down for a while to enjoy the sun and the view. After that we went for another hike, the weather turned a bit and the hike just didn’t cut it for me after that first hike. After a long and exciting day we went home to my friends place and slept there for the last night. We ate pancakes and stayed up until 12 to celebrate my birthday a bit.
The last day, my birhtday we went to Reine what should be one of the nicest hikes of the islands. But a guy told us it was really dangerous and avalanche prone. On the way back we passed to beach again, at this point it was snowing and we where like, screw it we have to swim. So we stripped down ran through the snow into the sea, dived in and ran back. It was cold but a very nice moment. Then we went to the viking museum but we didn’t have alot of time and the viking boat where we came for was even closed. So that was quite a bummer. After packing our stuff we drove to a birdhouse on the beach where my friend told me about. Without him we would’ve never found it. On the beach it was so beautiful and the birdhouse was just perfect. We build a fire and stayed up quite late to see the northern lights but, because of the full moon it was to bright to see them, it was such a nice evening that I will not forget easily.
The night in the birdhouse was so nice, but we woke up early because of the sunrise and the birdhouse had a 360 degrees panorama window wall. We packed our stuff had breakfast at a bar made out of driftwood once by some surfers and off we where. Towards Narvik and then down through Sweden. We saw alot of snowmobiles on lakes and big lakes where people where icefishing. Other then that Sweden was all the same. A long straight road with forest on both sides. This for about a 1000 km. We drove through the night, saw some raindeer and other animals. At one point we got back into Norway close to Oslo and from then it was still a long way to Kristiansand. It was nice to get back home after such a long but amazing trip.
