Evja Ski Week

We stayed in Troll Aktiv for one week to practice our ski techniques to get us ready for our expedition at the end of March.

Car Ride to Evja

We stayed in a cabin that fit 12 of us and the rest of the internationals were broken up into two cabins with 6 people each.  I definitely like more interactions with people so I was happy I had the cabin with more people.

Our 3 bunk bed room for the next week:)

I’m not a very good skier so the days were definitely challenging for me and full of tons of falls.  But as everyone’s says here “when your falling, you’re learning.”  So people joke that I didn’t fall enough as a child and I am making up for it now in my early 20’s.

Me, just learning again:)

The days would start off good; we would be divided into two groups, one group would go with our instructor Len and the other group would go with the owner of Troll Aktiv, Tim, who is also a very good skier.  As I was saying the days would start off good and we would learn different techniques and practice them on little slops which of course when your practicing new techniques and you don’t fully understand it there is falling involved.

I had a pretty good stamina though the morning time.  After every fall I would get up and it would be no big deal, but after lunch time I would start to get tired.  Once my body was tired I would fall even more!  So the end of the days were quite trying and tiring for me.  I like to say that I just had a lot of character building during this week.  Usually by the end of the day I had fallen over 20times and probably averaged about 5 good bruises a day.

Tea Time!

Wasa crackers for lunch!

Needless to say I was happy that we were sleeping in cabins this week and not in tents.  It was really nice to come home to a warm place to stay and cook our dinner indoors.

Exhausted at the end of the day= nap time on Katja

This week brought us closer as a class because we all lived together, played together, ate together, but most importantly helped each other through the day.  I’m very thankful for the group we have this year, everyone is so nice and all bring something different to the table.  Whether it’s the guy that makes you laugh, or the girl you can’t stop laughing with, the guy that’s sweet and shares his chocolate with you, the caring girl that gives you tips on your technique, or the guy that knows your tired at the end of the day and gives you a hug, without all of these people I know our experience wouldn’t be the same.

Inside a snow hole we found outside our cabin!

Making Pizza together for our last night!
